Don’t forget we’d love your company at any of the forthcoming  events where we try to cater for Adults, Families, and Children of all abilities. Whether you want gentle exercise and a social outlet or maybe even quite competitive tennis we aim to provide you with the opportunities. We host beginners nights, club night, coaching sessions and a full schedule of internal competitions for all levels of players. We also keep up to date with our neighboring tennis clubs and compete in many of their regional club events… so keep an eye on “Upcoming Events” the website!!

A gentle reminder to all that membership fees are now over-due for the 2013-2014 season and that all members should fill in the membership application form and post with a cheque to Club Treasurer,

Membership forms can be downloaded from the website or obtained locally in the Post Office or Credit Union.

Approved applicants will receive a 2013/2014 shoe tag, gate code and will have access to the lighting control box if required.

All members who paid fees prior to April 1st were entered into the draw.

The results were devasting for Richie and Maura with an incredible defeat in the first set 0-6 but they regrouped for the second set and won that one 6-4. There was no chance for a third set that evening and as a result Richie went home a little deflated but I think one thing is certain a re-match will be called for in the not too distant future…… update to follow

Coaching will cover:

• Slice approach shot into net win point with a volley
• Inside out/run around forehand (attacking shot)
• Backhand long and deep into opponents forcing them back behind baseline
• Body serve (serve directing it into opponents body)
• Drive forehand/backhand hit from 3/4 court to midcourt

This 8 week programme will commence on 23^rd April 2013.

Coaching lessons are 1-hour duration and age based from 6yrs to adult.

The blitz is open to all members and non-members.

One again john proved that ther is plenty of life in the old dog yet as he came out with a 6-2 6-2 victory over Richie Ryan.

Richie had been talking this one up, thinking there might be a shock on the cards, but deep down he knew that the sheer consistency and variety of shots that John possesses would be very difficult to beat.Richie started brightly and was well in contention early on as the first set was tied 2-2, but the mistakes began to creep in as the pressure mounted. John doesn’t make too many mistakes and although he was wiping a good deal of sweat from his brow, he began to capitalise at every opportunity and soon found himself running away with the match.

Well done John, who is now singles champion in Athy as well as Rathangan.. not sure anyone has ever been able claim that on a CV……… Better luck next year Richie :)

Congratulation to Catherine Hackett on winning the Ladies Singles.

Catherine Hackett and Mary McCrann served up a very entertaining and closely contested final in the ladies match up. Two very consistent players matched each other  shot for shot for the most part of this final but it was the Catherine’s more powerfull shots and movement around the court that gradually began to pay dividends. The first set ended 6-4, but a fantastic effort by Mary in the second set sent it to a tie-break. Catherine came out narrowly on  top in this epic final se 11-9.

Well done Catherine and Mary.
